ISEA supported regional decision makers with an in-depth study on the setup of an innovations system within the healthcare sector.
A county council in Sweden had identified the potential in creating a unified innovation system throughout the healthcare sector in the region. The objective was to determine how such an innovation system would be organized to reach maximum efficiency and also define a way for implementation.
The ISEA / Triathlon team benchmarked how healthcare organizations worldwide work with managing innovations. In addition, the current organization was mapped out and characterized to determine how an innovation system could be integrated. The team developed an assessment report with suggestions on how to manage recruitment, verify innovations, and integrate them in the local healthcare environment. A governance structure, with a holding company for managing immaterial rights such as patents, was also developed. A large number of decision makers within the healthcare sector were given opportunity to contribute, to anchor the report with key stakeholders.
The report supported decision makers and led to the implementation of an innovation system within the region’s healthcare sector. The innovation system has led to an increased flow of ideas and improved information exchange and cooperation between healthcare actors and private sector entities.
